Ikea Ektorp Bromma, How Happy You Have Made Me!

Have you ever noticed how the addition of one tiny little piece of furniture can suddenly force you to redecorate transform an entire room?

I have been wanting to get a small square ottoman for the front room for some time now, just to add something that would make it a little more comfortable. You see, the room isn’t used for anything other than the computer and a place to throw things when you walk in the front door. This room and I have struggled with each other since day one and it’s been a long 7 years of trying to configure it the very best way and maximise usage.

Mind you, it isn't a great photo (old camera) but the room was far from great anyway. This about previous failure. I just want to provide you with the jist of what was going on.

The room itself actually has quite a few great structural things going for it. There is a large picture window, a nice fireplace, and an open view into the living room. It does, however, lack in size and has an awkward layout. Those two elements combined with my lack of vision made it into an epic failure.

Back to the ottoman – I wasn’t in a total rush to get one because I knew it wasn’t going to give it the change I was looking for. I was at a loss and frustrated and had no idea how to make this room function.

Until recently.

One day, months ago, while putzing around on the Pottery Barn website, I found a tool that lets you configure your space, complete with measurements and architural elements. From there, the program lets you pick out furniture in their proportionate sizes and rearrange until your heart is content.

Swoon!

I kid you not when I tell you that I happily spent 6 hours finding the very best way to make use of my space. 

Eureeka! I figured out a floorplan, I was thrilled! I was so happy that I actually contemplated spending the $4,000 that it would have taken to make my decorating dreams come true. I proclaimed my victory to Huz and he half-heartedly (meaning dont-you-dare) gave me the approval to order the room of my dreams!

I got real. 

Then I waited…

And waited…

And finally, a few weeks ago fate took a turn.

My son brought home an unwanted chair from a friends house that just happened to be the perfect size for my floor plan (yes,I have it saved) and my little brain started churning.

The chair was from Ikea and all that it needed was a new cover that would match the colors of my house. After a few weeks of it just sitting there I finally braved up and headed to the store with Isaac. I figured while we were there we might as well take a chance and look at the ottomans.

Okay, so I am not going into anymore detail about this room for now, because there are still a ton of things (did you see the first picture??) that are on my list that I’ll do my best to finish up by the end of summer.

Right now, I am so excited that I am already using this room in a new way and for the simple, but extremely useful and comfy home sort of way, changes that will be coming up. I can’t wait to share them with you!
