We Hate Steak!

I used to complain about my mom always making chicken or steak for dinner when I was growing up. “It’s always chicken or steak! I hate steak! We had chicken the other day!” I wonder how many of the below conversations my mom had with me about the menu.

“Mom, what’s for dinner?”

“Pot roast and mashed potatoes but they won’t be ready for a few hours.”

“URGHHH. Why do you keep making stuff I don’t want?!”

“Well, what would you want?”

“We had steak yesterday. And. You know I hate steak.”

“You love steak. What would you like to eat?”

“You are always making stuff that I don’t like!”

“Well, what would you like to eat?”

“What is there?”

“Pot roast but it won’t be ready for a few hours.”

URGH…

“I can make what you like to eat tomorrow. What would you like?”

“I’m ordering food from Golden Crust.”

“If you want to waste your money, then fine. But, what would you like for dinner tomorrow?”

“Yeah, I don’t want to waste my money. Can I get a sandwich at Wawa?”

“No, I’m not spending money. I made pot roast. You’ll like it. It’s good. What would you like tomorrow?!”

{he orders fries and mozzarella sticks; then eats dinner with us anyway}

“This is really good and I love the potatoes! It’s like roast beef!”

“That’s what pot roast is. Did you decide what you want tomorrow?”

“…”

“Mom, what’s for dinner?”

“Sandwiches from Wawa.”

“URGHH! You said it was my turn to pick!”

“You never answered me and I’m not going to the market now.”

“But I want hamburgers!”

I was one of four kids. Did my sister, brothers, or dad gave her lip about what she was cooking, too? How she didn’t give up making dinner every night of week, I’ll never know. She must have wanted to strangle me.

I’m sorry for being such a brat, Mom. I hope it brings a smile to your face knowing that karma has come back two-fold to bite me in my ass.

  1. Ah, yes. I go through that too. At least one person in my house dislikes something about every meal I make, yet they never have any suggestions. It’s frustrating!

    1. They will have kids to feed one day and see how it is 🙂 On the other hand though, I asked BF for a few suggestions of what he’d like one week.

Well, he grabbed all the cookbooks and made me a whole menu. A main dish and a side dish for each day. He had no clue how much the ingredients cost or the preparation time involved.

Most of his requests have only been made on Sundays. Last week it took me 5 hours to make one of the meals!! FIVE hours.

From now on it’s one meal request, per person, per week! And if it costs more than $20 to make forget about it!

  2. My 11 year old is this way, too! She hates everything I cook except for tacos. And the funny thing is she’ll say things like, “Ugh I don’t like pepperoni pizza!” And then the next week ask for pepperoni pizza. Wtf? Lol She drives me crazy! haha

    1. We LOVE tacos! I make about 6 different types (not at once) and I was doing taco Tuesdays for months, but then my son begged me to stop. Lol! I’m starting them again soon though, they are super easy nights and so so yummy!

      1. Lol
I didn’t realize there were different ways to make tacos! Do you have the recipes for your tacos? Is it on your blog page? I’d love to learn them so I can mix our taco nights up.
Personally, I’m tired of tacos. Lol But my daughter could eat tacos for breakfast, lunch, and dinner if I let her!
